Calzadilla - Terradillos de los Templarios, 9 kms

It is Mother's Day After All

So that's part of the reason we took a day off walking. Time to take a slower morning, connect with our kids, chat on the phone with our Mothers and time to wash the cars! Besides, I just learned that we have cougar spotting in one of our prime walking locations. This has happened many times before, but not recently that I'm aware of. Any excuse for a day off: )

I should also mention that it was just before here in Carrión that we enjoyed our last supper with Peter and Dave. They were on a different schedule than we were and we left them well behind as they had booked all their accommodations ahead of time. We didn't see them again except for on Skype until March 2015 in Oz.

This was taken while walking out in November 2018.

Always looking for the sunrise, as usual.

I had dinner with my Japanese friend last night. That was memorable!

We have a photo of this arrow on our wall from 2013. The arrow was still there in 2018, but it wasn't nearly as nice. Still nice to see though.

Ledigos in 2013,

and again in 2018. No surprise that it hadn't changed a single bit.

It's a really long was to Santiago!! Sheesh!

Of course they use a coma in Europe for the decimal point. I though at the time that there was a very exact distance! The number is lessened by about 20 kms too. How did they mess that one up?

We stopped at this really good albergue just shy of Terradillos. There was a good bar attached, clothes washing facilities and a big drying line at the back. Also this is where we met the young woman who was suffering from bed bug bites and an infestation in her gear that she says was picked up in Fromista.

We spotted Neil and Sarah as they passed and encouraged them to stop here, but they said that they needed to press on.

Where did you folks stop? We were all together the next night so I'm thinking you didn't go much further. You missed a great place...and us!

We picked up a super cheap little room which was a nice luxury.

We walked into Terradillos which was just one kilometre down the road and visited the albergue there. We realized what a good deal we had found at the new place just outside town.

That said, Ken has good memories;

5 October, Terradillos de los Templarios

Grateful for the end of a 27 km walk, for a crisp morning becoming a warm fall day, for a bed in a decent albergue, for a cold beer and a chair. Working on a second beer. Grateful I changed into [a] dry shirt. So tired I could lie down and sleep for hours.

So flat!

In 2018 it was very late in the season, still flat as flat can be,

and our albergue was shut down. Ken said the other day that this is exactly like southern Saskatchewan where he lives. No wonder he felt so at home here.

But they had left a big guard dog to watch over the place. We bonded, not threatening at all. Just big.

A long stage tomorrow to one of our favourite places where Ken, Mariann, Sarah, Neil and we two had a wonderful stay.

Yet another disappointing planter.

Happy Mother's day to all the Moms!!

Buen Camino!
