Are We Still Having Fun You Ask?

They do say that the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain...and we can confirm that it does! It poured the whole way today. While we appreciate the deluge that home is presently experiencing, it's different when you have to walk all day in it. Truly an ugly day, and to top it off Annemarie's toe kicked up through the first half of the day until we found some relief for her at the 12km mark in Tardajos at a pharmacy. Add a good tape job and she was off again to complete a very soggy walk.

I took risks getting these photos...

Knowing that this stop would be a huge challenge accommodation wise, I cheated a bit and tracked down a Casa Rural before we left home. Fortunately there was room at the farm house for us and the lady of the house picked us up in Hornillos and drove us south at breakneck speed along country roads to their amazing place. 

Tea was provided on arrival and the small inn is full of Irish and Canadians...,some poor folks from Winnipeg. A fun evening is in store no doubt as the wine and beer is flowing! Annemarie is having a hoot and getting right in there as I type this. We have our own geese and peacocks as well too;)

One thing I will say, as we passed folks today, while soaked, everyone had a kind word and a smile...without fail. Tremendous spirit...after all, we are all here because we chose to be here.

One of the cool things about the place where we reside tonight is that it was used during the filming of the movie The Way with the cast having stayed here. Apparently during filming, they walked up and down the field on the farm, day after day....

Backing up to last night, we were invited by Dave and Peter to join them for dinner at a Red Guide Michelin approved restaurant. It was simply amazing and what a change in food quality!

The four of us all met up again today at a small bar along the way and had something hot and dripped off a bit...nice folks.

So while it rages outside, we are dry for the moment. Dinner promises to be something special and very social. Many of the folks here are staying two nights, but they are only walking a short way overall. We will press on and we expect to arrive wet again tomorrow...newspaper in the shoes again tomorrow night. A lovely fire burning here to dry out our gear...likely we won't see that again.

Well that's it for today. We are hoping for a better toe day tomorrow for Annemarie as its very painful for her, but she just swears a blue streak and carries on...I wisely stay quiet (usually) and close by.
