Den Haag & Leiden: Cloud & Sun, 14

A Wander Or Two

The past two days have been spent wandering first in the rains of Den Haag where we are staying and then last night and today in Leiden's sunshine. Yesterday Annemarie and walked the streets of the home of the World's Courts. A more formal city with a varied cultural feel being that it's home to many consulates.

During a nasty rain storm we met Erin and lined up for the Maurits Huis art exhibit for the a royal Collection, the British Royal collection with works that included Rembrandt and Vermeer and others.
There were some special items on display...I have this on good authority from my art history daughter:) Vermeer's famous Girl With The Pearl Earring was attracting lots of attention.

Lots of good Dutch art! Then it was on the train for Leiden to enjoy an Indonesian rice taffle. A Dutch tradition with 18 dishes! Boy did we eat!
A beautiful evening as the sun set over the Noord Sea boats.

This morning we were up and on our way back to Leiden to have breakfast with Erin in her digs and then we were off to tour the city, a more traditional Dutch city. I'm going to use the city as my base for the next 5 days as Annemarie flies home tomorrow. So I'll save more about the city for a possible future post. A few photos from the day.
The building ahead on the left was Rembrandt's school...he grew up in Leiden, a native son.
It's definitely fall here. After the heat in the south my body is telling me this loud and clear as it tightens up!

As you can see the next 5 days will be fun...weather permitting:)

  1. Enjoy the rain! And the art.

What will you do after Annemarie goes home? Or are you letting that be a surprise?
