Sitting in a plaza in front of the local huge cathedral in Logrono after completing a long walk today enjoying our favourite post walk food warm down...
Los Arcos turned out to be a great stop for many reason, good pension, great company, good beer and food. A place to hang out and connect with others on the Way. Enjoyed a nice evening with our Irish connection and a very nice couple from Melbourne. Consumed my first plate of paella...much better than my last one in Madrid a couple of year ago...for sure!
In Los Arcos last night all the talk was about how hot the next day (today) was forecast to be...31C seemed the average prediction. So like many others, we made the decision to set the alarm for 5:45 to be on the road for 6:30...not a happy decision, but necessary. We think the heat is part of Annemarie's issue, so today we were walking at 6:30 across open farm land under an amazing star display! Yes, there was also a waning moon which allowed us to put away the head lamps and just walk in the moon glow. It was dazzling!! 
We carried on like this for well over an hour before the sun finally showed itself as we walked into the village of Sansol.
Tonight, in a couple of hours we are going on a bar crawl to feed on tapas and Rioja wine, because we are now in the District of Rioja...Ole!! Walked past dozens of vin yards today...the wine is so good, and so cheap here! We have arrived for the annual wine festival and we plan to really enjoy ourselves tonight! We have planned a very short day tomorrow, only 13 kms to Navarrette where we have booked a small pension, so no need to get up early...ole! It's a good time for a slow day as we are watching other peregrinos come into town, many limping and dragging various appendages...lots of injuries, so must take care as one can go to bed seemingly ok, and wake up a in a bit of distress.

ReplyDeleteHow's the Rioja? Go lightly on the wine as it can be bad for inflammation. Try to find some picnoginal which is made from the bark of cork trees. Supposed to be a great antioxidant and therefore anti inflamitory. Just got off the phone with mom and she says hi. Grinding Ellen to fire up the computer so that they can look at the post. Ellen has this idea that computers are demons I think and that they suck up too much time for too little value. Oh well. I think that I will have to get mom a tablet and if she doesn't like it I will keep it. Going down to Kelowna on the 5th. Festival of the grape in Oliver on the 6th. Weather remains cold and wet. We are up to 85m rain so far this month and more on the way all week. Josh is coming home in early October. Congradultions on the birthday of your Caitlin. Thats all for now and keep on trekking. Gil
