Before I begin, the morning sunrise as we walked out at 8:50 through the fog.
And the salt marsh was pretty sweet as well.
Finally, a bird that didn't fly away!
So let me briefly share the day. As indicated we departed a little late because of the fog. Turned out it was sitting just over our village and we walked out of it about 500 meters down the road. Hmmm?
Prior to leaving home as I put together our walking notes for this route I spotted a cut off to be used in case of need that would take a few kilometres off this stage. It might be raining, one of us might have an injury, or any number of possibilities. After two tough 8 hour days we both felt pretty good, but our primary goal on this route is to, a) survive it and, b) be in condition to meet up with Neil and Sarah in 9 days to walk the Camino Portuguese together. This is our number one priority. So today we were supposed to walk to the highest point on this Camino and see a bit of archeological stuff. Let's see...climb through lord knows what to see something that I'm already aware of, or walk less to a nice hotel with a gorgeous beach? Tough choice. We walked the cut-off... This walk isn't about getting to Santiago, so no pressure. As Rob said each morning "Soy vacacione"...or something more or less the like this! This is our vacation from the approved Camino. Why doesn't it feel like a vacation? Late up and on the trail, a nicish hotel each day...ok some are barely nice, but habitable. Today it's very nice...three stars! Any way, that's about all I want to say. The title says it all...around each corner.

PS. We are staying in the tiny coastal town of Arou tomorrow night in a private home and may not have wifi. If not we will post from Camarinas on Saturday.
Another great day--with beaches, pulpo, beer. What more could you ask?
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for taking the short cut. You've done enough climbing, from the photos you've posted in the last few days. From what I've seen in England, archaeological sites are often a little disappointing, anyway.

ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning set of photos from what looks like a majestic day of costal walking. We had a great day too, although ours was more about cultural and urban beauty, whereas yours was clearly about natural wonder with a pince of simple village and fishing life added for good measure. It looks like the perfect day after the tough bush-bashing (we call it) of the previous day. I'm glad you are keeping yourselves fit for our shared section of the Portuguese. As you can see from our blog, we had a relatively easy day of walking ourselves out of Lisbon. We're in a youth hostel tonight and I can hear the sounds of children outside the room as I type. So, far Portugal has been a real delight, as it seems Spain is being for you. What a privilege to walk in such places. Well, my friends, this little peregrinos needs to hit the sack.
